As we begin our first few days of summer let’s face it, we all want to kick back, relax and enjoy the summer ahead. If you happen to be moving this summer the truth is that you are dreading it. If you are proactive, smart, and involved in your move it may not be as hard as you think. Here are tips to make your move as quick and painless as possible.
SELL SELL SELL! And what you can’t sell DONATE! Moving is the perfect time to sort through the wanted and unwanted clutter that has accumulated in your attic, basement, closets and every other nook and cranny. For many people it is hard to part with belonging as they seem to have a “what if” thought behind parting with everything. The truth is by simply having a separate box for donated or for sale items, you may save an entire days’ worth of moving junk from one holding place to another. Look at it this way- If you do not see yourself using something in the next month, chances are you do not need that item so get rid of it.

In reality that will most likely cause you loads of confusion, stress and frustration when you open your boxes and have no clue where anything is. One of the first things to do before loading any boxes is label! Label each box based on the room it will go in, contents that will be in it, and if it is fragile or not. When packing up the truck (or moving van) these labels will help make sure you are not packing heavy boxes on top of your fragile items.
Keep the important items. If you think you may use a tool or item to help with the move make sure not to pack it away. The last thing you want is to pack away things that you will need to help in the moving process (scissors, tape, tools etc.). Make a list of the supplies and items you will need and make sure to set those items aside when packing everything up.
It is okay to be generous on the packing materials. Don’t be afraid to go overboard with the bubble wrap. Not many people realize how aggressively your things can be tossed around during a move. The items you think are safe might not be if you do not take advantage of bubble wrap and the proper moving boxes. The extra caution put in place when packing your fragile items can save you from dealing with broken glass while unpacking.
PLAN AHEAD! If you are not a ‘list’ kind of person now is the time to be. Making a list and planning your move ahead of time is crucial in saving time and making sure things move smoothly. If you plan to move over the course of a week or Image may be NSFW.

Start as early as possible. Let’s face it, the days are getting hotter and less bearable as we get closer and closer to July. The earlier in the day that you start your move, the more you will get done. If you start right when the sun comes up it will amaze you with what you can get done by lunch time. Break your day up! Move a room or two, get lunch to refuel and continue. Having a goal and a set plan is crucial in order to be on the same page as everyone involved.
Ask for help. Moving can be extremely stressful if you feel as if you are doing it all on your own. If you have ever tried to move without professional help I am sure you can say that the next move you will be hiring movers. Moving on your own with the help of your friends and family works well if you are single, and moving from a small apartment or home to another. Families and couples who have double sometimes triple the amount of items should make it a top priority to hire a trustworthy moving company. Hiring this help will assure you that your belonging will get to their destination safely as the right company will package and handle all of your furniture and items with the most care. The price you pay truly will pay off when you have the proper trucks, and helpers to make your move safe and efficient.
